Our garden has been huge and awesomely amazing this year! It's been lots of fun and involvement for the whole family! This was the year we finally put our neglected side yard to use as a garden. Last year, we had hired some of the teenage boys in the neighborhood to dig up multiple layers of old landscape fabric, rotten wood, screws, and junk (embedded under a thick layer of thatched weeds!); this had been preventing us from just rototilling the dirt and planting. After all the junk was cleared out, we borrowed our neighbors rototiller and worked in lots of good soil amendments. It was truly a beautiful sight-- all that healthy, WEED-FREE soil! Then Brent put in an awesome new drip system in the side yard and extending along the back of the house through the strawberry patch. We decided to plant all the "big stuff" in the side yard: pumpkins, winter squash, zucchini and yellow squash, these totally fun gourds called Autumn Wings, cucumber, and corn. It was SO NICE to not have to worry about watering those sections! The amazing thing is, almost every single thing we planted grew like a weed! It was such a joy to witness the miracle of the harvest as a family. Next year, we'll have to install a similar drip system along the other garden areas along the back fence. This is the side yard as the plants were starting to take over. Some of them eventually blocked off any pathway and nearly reached the side of the house, which was fine by me since it kept down some of the weeds over there :0) This is truly a miracle for us since when we lived in Spanish Fork we were such miserable failures with our garden!

The strawberries are finally happy and thriving this year, thanks to Brent's drip system! Unfortunately, the kids usually eat them all before they make it into the house.

A typical sight of our backyard in the summer: toys and balls scattered around, and kids climbing on the trampoline. This means they're happy!
